The Thuringian Mountain Railway was a great success and attracted many visitors to the region. Over the years, the mountain railroad was modernized and expanded several times. Today, it is one of the main attractions in the region and a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. In addition, it is considered the only wide-gauge cable car in Germany & the steepest funicular in the world, as it climbs about 323 meters in altitude on its journey, with a gradient of 25%.

This route is run every half hour, from 6 am to 8 pm.
